The Folly Beach City Council will hold the final vote tonight to put the alcohol ban referendum on the general ballot in November. The measure is expected to go through with no real issue.
So, has the current “emergency ban” fixed anything so far? It’s too early to say, but The Post & Courier is reporting that Folly Beach’s public safety records show that officers “have issued six open-container tickets, one ticket for drinking alcohol in a car, three tickets for disorderly conduct, three tickets for glass on the beach, and they have made three DUI arrests.”
Also, here is a good read about the ban from Stratton Lawrence at the City Paper.
***UPDATE 7/25/12*** – The reading has been postponed until August 14th
***FURTHER UPDATE FOR 7/25/12*** HERE is some more info about why the vote was postponed from the Charleston City Paper (with much info coming from the Post & Courier).
