Charleston County will shift to OPCON 2 at 5 p.m. today in anticipation of possible overnight impacts from Hurricane Helene.
County Emergency Management personnel are prepared to respond overnight or activate the Emergency Operations Center, as needed.

Based on the latest information from the National Weather Service, the primary threat to Charleston County remains the potential for tornadoes overnight. Additional impacts may include gusty winds (30-35 mph sustained winds with gusts up to 55 mph) and 1.5 to 2 inches of rain overnight.
A tornado watch and tropical storm warning remain in effect for Charleston County.
Current forecasts show the most significant impacts subsiding by daybreak Friday.
County Operations:
- Out of an abundance of caution, tonight’s Dorchester Road Corridor Improvements Project public meeting has been postponed. A new date will be announced as soon as possible.
- In the meantime, residents can review virtual meeting materials and submit comments online here.
- Charleston County offices and facilities will continue to operate as scheduled today and will open as scheduled Friday morning.
- All Charleston County Library branches, offices, and book drops will close at 6 p.m. Thursday. Patrons may still access digital resources at ccpl.org.
- Friday morning’s recycling collection will proceed as scheduled.
- There are no plans to staff the county’s English or Spanish language Community Information Lines at this time.
