As students return to school, the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) today announced a partnership with the Charleston County School District (CCSD) to feature artwork from local K-12 students onboard the CARTA bus fleet throughout its service area.
Beginning today, CARTA buses will transform into mobile art galleries, highlighting the work of local student artists and bringing awareness to public school art programs provided by the Charleston County School District.
“This partnership with CCSD literally puts the ‘art' in CARTA,” said CARTA Board Chairman Mike Seekings. “Art and public transit are powerful in their ability to move us. We are excited to shine a light on the incredible talent of our local students and the importance of investing in critical art programs like those provided by Charleston County School District.”
CARTA provides free transportation to students grades K-12 throughout the entire service area, and provides free routes for college students, including the Downtown Area Shuttle, also known as DASH; and Route 20, which services King and Meeting Streets.
Seekings continued, “Everything we do at CARTA is geared toward providing a safe, reliable, and accessible mode of transportation, and ensuring our area students are able to get where they need to go – for free – remains a priority.”

Education in the arts goes beyond the classroom and benefits not only our students but all members of the community. We are excited to share the hard work our students and teachers do every day with the Charleston community and hope to continue sharing student artwork through this partnership.”
