Patriots Point will be dedicating the month of October to promoting breast cancer awareness through their new campaign, “The Fighting Lady is in The Fight.” The effort begins on Tuesday, October 1st with a kickoff celebration, charitable drive and more.
This Tuesday the public is invited to Hangar Bay 3 of the USS Yorktown between 10 and 11 am for free admission to the kickoff ceremony and access to the iconic ship. Following the short ceremony, attendees can release a pink flower into the Charleston Harbor in honor or memory of someone they know who has been affected by breast cancer. Plus, the pink fire-truck from the North Charleston Fire Department will be on site which visitors can sign for a $1 donation.
Here are some other highlights from Patriots Point’s Campaign:
- Starting on October 1st and continuing through the rest of the month, the Yorktown will be illuminated pink at night.
- All month employees and visitors will be encouraged to support the campaign through dropping donations in the pink donation boxes at the entrance to the USS Yorktown and The Ship Store.
- All staff members will wear pink t-shirts October 1st and can wear them anytime during the month with a $1 donation toward the cause.
All money raised through the campign will be donated to the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina.
