Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry (BBBSL), the preeminent evidence-based, one-to-one youth mentoring organization serving the tri-county region, today announced the recipients of its Big Sister and Big Brother of the Year awards at its 2024 BIG Appreciation celebration. The awardees were selected from among more than 200 Big Brothers and Big Sisters participating in the program during the last year.
The award ceremony was held on Thursday, January 25th at Holy City Brewing in North Charleston and was attended by the organization’s Big Brothers and Big Sisters as well as BBBSL committee volunteers, board members, and staff.
The honorees for the 2024 Bigs of the Year in the community-based mentoring program are Ryan Webster, Founder and Partner at Sweetgrass Law Group, and Miranda Green, retired US Air Force. Additionally, the title of Big of the Year for the 2024 BIG Beyond mentoring program was awarded to Shawn Stuart, trainer and owner of Full Circle Fitness.
“We are thrilled to honor Miranda, Ryan, and Shawn as our 2024 Bigs of the Year," said Merridith Crowe, BBBSL CEO. "Each of these wonderful mentors have been dedicated to helping their mentees develop a stronger sense of self, navigate life’s ups and downs, and develop strong aspirations for themselves. The best part is that they have done so by just being themselves, showing up, listening, and spending casual, yet meaningful time with their Littles and Scholars. I also love that each of these Bigs often share that their Littles also inspire them and teach them new things too. We are excited for these matches to continue to flourish and we look forward to celebrating these great young people as they become terrific young adults.”
Each year, BBBSL honors outstanding mentors as its Bigs of the Year. These individuals are nominated by the BBBSL staff to illustrate how mentoring relationships help Littles achieve their biggest possible futures while also leaving a lasting impact on the Big.
