ATOMACON, a sci-fi, fantasy, and science media arts convention, will be in Charleston from November 8th until the 10th. The event will be held at the InnPlace Hotel (formally the Sheraton Airport Hotel).
The convention describes itself as a “nonprofit educational corporation dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for science fiction, fantasy, and science through related literary and other popular art forms.”
This year’s event features:
- Author Guest of Honor: Jack McDevitt.
- Science Guest of Honor is Les Johnson, Deputy Manager for the Advanced Concepts Office at the NASA George C. Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
- Appearances by authors, artists and craftsman, musical guests, dancers, comedians, costumers, make-up artists, scientists, and filmmakers
- A fan created Ghostbusters Car-Ecto 1, R2D2, and TARDIS
- Charity auction to benefit the MUSC Children's Hospital and Charleston Animal Society
- Costume Contest
- Vendor's room
- Over 130 hours of workshops, discussion panels, movie screenings, and interactive events.
The convention’s hours:
- Friday, 11/8: 3 pm – Midnight
- Saturday, 11/9: 10 am – Midnight
- Sunday, 11/10: 10 am – 4 pm
