Cancer-survivors will take center stage at the 7th Annual Charleston Dragon Boat Festival on May 3rd at Brittlebank Park.
The event is run by Dragon Boat Charleston (DBC), a group that “promotes physical and mental wellness among cancer survivors and their community” through the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boating. The festival also serves as a fundraiser for DBC. Any money made through the event helps cover the costs of members' fees. Last year, proceeds from the event “paid the expenses of DBC cancer survivors at races throughout the country.”
DBC hopes to raise $100,000, but it will need your help to do so. To donate, please visit this page. That particular page was started by my girlfriend's mother, who is a cancer survivor, so it would mean a lot to Ms. Holy City Sinner's family and me if you could donate through her page.
This year's Dragon Boat Festival will feature races, food, and fun. The first race starts at 8:30 am. For more information on the event, click here.

Also of note – Dragon Boat Charleston was featured in Awaken the Dragon, a documentary, by local filmaker Liz Oakley, which won an award at the 2012 Charleston Film Festival.
