Local nonprofit Going Places will be the surprising all 173 children that attend Edith L. Frierson Elementary School on Nov 22, 2024 with a new, custom bike, lock, helmet, and bike pump. This bike reveal has been fully funded by The Beyond Our Gates Foundation of Kiawah & Seabrook.
If you're interested in volunteering, Going Places will need help building all bikes, loading the bikes onto a semi truck, helping set up and surprising all of the children at the school.
Here's what the nonprofit needs:
At the bike builds
- 30 volunteers per 2.5-hr. time slot, may sign up for more than 1 time slot
At the bike reveals
- 40 volunteers are needed to help unload all bikes, locks, helmets, and bike pumps off of the semi trucks and set up the bikes under the big tarps for the surprise bike reveals
- Going Places and volunteers will remain at the school until 6 pm as parents come and check out their child’s bike
- DJ Scott Sain will provide music
Details for the bike build:
- WHEN: Nov. 20th and 21st from 10 am - 5 pm (2.5-hrs time shifts)
- WHERE: Bintelli Warehouse (not their store, but in the back of the building (exact bay doors TBD) at 6900 Weber Blvd. in Ladson
Details for the bike reveal:
- WHEN: Nov. 22nd
- TIME: Volunteers arrive at 1 pm, reveal at 2 pm, distribution to parents at 2:30 pm
- WHERE: Frierson Elementary (in the back of the school) at 6133 Maybank Hwy. on Wadmalaw Island
