Republican Carroll O'Neal has announced his candidacy for South Carolina House District 115, which includes some of James Island and Johns Island and Kiawah and Seabrook Islands. He will be running against the incumbent, Rep. Spencer Wetmore.
O'Neal said he plans to prioritize the following goals:
- Work with state and local agencies to further protect District 115 from overdevelopment
- Support school choice for parents and children
- Institute earlier trade school education
- Write and support a Bill that creates protection for homeowners 65 and older from property taxes (plan to be phased in over 3 years from inception)
- Ensure that infrastructure dollars are fairly distributed for road widening and other critical projects in District 115 such as a safer drive from US 17 South onto Main Road onto Johns Island and towards Seabrook and Kiawah Islands
- Work with local businesses and agencies to create jobs with potential for higher wages for constituents
- Use publicity to encourage small businesses to come to all areas of District 115
