In advance of a late summer opening, Jesse Van Note and Andrew Ross of The Whale are teaming up with a few of their hospitality peers to host two pop-ups, giving locals a taste of what's to come at the craft beer collective and tasting room, opening in the Refinery at 1640 Meeting Street Road.
On Wednesday, July 14th beginning at 5 pm, The Whale will team up with Kwei Fei (1977 Maybank Highway) for a not-so-traditional “Legacy of Brewtality” craft beer dinner. For the dinner, Kwei Fei Chef David Schuttenberg has crafted a six-course vegan Sichuan menu that includes Guai Wei with Tofu Skin; Hot and Sour Mushroom Salad; Vegetable Dry Pot with Rice; Yibin Noodles; Dry Fried Shitakes and Peppers; and a Sichuan Sundae for dessert. The Whale has curated a beer list to pair with the spicy selections.
Ticket cost is $55 per person and includes all food and beer pairings. Guests will receive a souvenir branded Whale beer glass to take home with them. Reservations are encouraged and may be made through Kwei Fei's Resy page.
Then on Sunday, July 25th, The Whale pops up at Chubby Fish (252 Coming St.) for the “Chubby Whale Cookout,” featuring a menu of fun summer favorites from Chubby Fish chef James London including Chili Cheese Dogs; Cheeseburgers; Buffalo Wings; Caviar Bumps and Life Raft Treats. The Whale has curated beer and wine list featuring German lagers and refreshing Pét-Nat sparkling wines.
The dinner is walk in only and runs from 5 pm to 9 pm. For more information, visit instagram.com/
