Red Palm Tavern, occupying the space formerly home to Crust Pizza (45 Romney Street, Suite 100), is set to open on Friday, December 15th at 7 pm. The bar will mark the grand opening with a celebration featuring some complementary treats from Tito’s Vodka, complementary light bites, and live music. The grand opening is free to attend and open to the public.
The space was leased by new owners/partners, Tyler Wicker, Beau Sliger, and Jeremy Latta with the vision of creating an old style American tavern and sports bar featuring a wood-fire influenced menu, covered patio, billiards, darts, 15 TVs, and a large LED screen.
“We wanted to bring the old downtown Charleston bar vibes to the NOMO area, but with elevated food and all while utilizing the wood-fire stove already installed in the space," said Wicker. "You have iconic spots like Blind Tiger on the lower peninsula and we wanted to create something that could be like that on the upper peninsula - a premium pub, but one that you’re comfortable visiting in your work clothes after a long day on the job site, in your suit after a long day, at the office or even on a date night with your partner.”
The trio hired Chef Joe Nierstedt for menu development and restaurant consulting for the opening.
Chef Nierstedt spent close to 10 years at three Michelin starred establishments in the US and abroad. His most recent project was Kinfolk on Johns Island.
Darius Frayer was also brought in on the project to lead the kitchen as head chef.
“I started my career in the kitchen as a dishwasher and as the years went by, something as simple as a summer job became a passion and I moved up to prep cook at Magnolia’s and the rest was history," Frayer said. "I've now been cooking for over 10 years and developed a passion for southern cuisine while working at venues such as High Cotton and Peninsula Grill. I'm blessed to say that I can't wait for everyone to come try the food Red Palm Tavern – you won’t be disappointed.”
