The Longboard, an island-inspired restaurant and bar from the island of St. John, will open their next location on Sullivan’s Island by the spring of 2020. Charleston natives Clint Gaskins and Tyler Beckstead will open the eatery at 2213 Middle Street.
The original location opened in 2015 in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) ferry port town of Cruz Bay on the island of St. John. Like The Longboard St. John, the Sullivan's Island iteration will focus on “innovative and refined island fare, utilizing coastal flavors, fresh and obscure seafood, various shellfish additions, tropical produce, and Lowcountry farms and fishermen.”
Longboard Culinary Director and Partner Kenny Claxton, who has been the St. John’s team since 2016, will oversee the culinary program and search for executive chef at the Sullivan's restaurant. Claxton's menu is expected to include fresh catch ceviche, aquachiles, tiraditos, crudos, Hawaiian-inspired poke bowls, sushi wraps, sharable bar snacks, and small plates.
The restaurant will also offer tropical craft cocktails, local kombucha, wine, and wine. On tap will be Longboards’ famous frozen libations, an assortment of local craft beers, and house-made sodas.
The existing space, which previously housed 450 Pizza Joint, will undergo extensive renovations. Longboard says the design will “blend elements of Caribbean architectural flair and laid-back island style.”
The Longboard Sullivan's Island will be open daily for lunch and dinner. You can follow The Longboard's progress on Facebook, Instagram, and www.thelongboardsullivans.com (once it’s active).
