Lillian’s Petite Market & Eatery officially opened for service on Sunday, December 1 at 247 Congress St., the former home of Harold's Cabin. The highly anticipated revival of the space features all-day dining, a market, a restaurant, and gathering spaces.
Owned and envisioned by Heather Greene, Lillian’s is described as "a multi-faceted concept that honors the history of the iconic space while catering to the needs of the modern Westside Charleston community." While Harold’s Cabin was named for the son of the original owners when they opened the first Harold’s Cabin in 1929, Lillian’s is named for Harold Jacobs’ wife, Lillian Jacobs, who helped Harold run their family-owned and operated deli and grocery store hybrid in the mid-twentieth century.
Harold’s Cabin announced its closure in February 2024 and was best known for its eclectic, rustic cabin theme and regional cuisine. When Greene learned of Harold’s Cabin’s closure, she knew that she wanted a chance to be a part of Harold’s Cabin’s next chapter. Applying decades of her combined art, culinary, and hospitality expertise, Heather shared her vision to revive the Harold’s Cabin space in a letter to the former owners.
“Lillian’s is a place that preserves legacy while creating something vibrant and new that serves the community it’s a part of,” said Heather Greene, owner of Lillian’s Petite Market & Eatery. “It’s a space where neighbors can connect, share a meal, pick up groceries, and feel truly at home. It’s a celebration of community, creativity, and sustainable living.”
Lillian’s Petite Market & Eatery features a variety of experiences:
- Front Market: The ground floor includes a grocery and provisional market stocked with local produce, meats, dairy, wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, and a curated selection of home goods.
- Morning Offerings: A coffee program serving locally roasted Second State Coffee, pastries, and baked goods from pastry chef Allison Brown.
- Daytime Dining: A hot, café-style breakfast and lunch menu, alongside grab-and-go food items in a breakfast bar and café setting.
- Evenings: A bar and dinner service in the upstairs dining room and rooftop patio, with seasonal, locally sourced dishes crafted by Executive Chef Todd Garrigan and craft cocktails from mixologist Ruth Wetenhall.
- Community Spaces: By day, the café room serves as a hub for remote work and casual meetings. By night, it transforms into a space for community enrichment activities like classes, forums, and tastings. The community room will be available for reservation upon request.
- Weekend Brunch: On Saturdays and Sundays, every floor of Lillian’s will be dedicated to brunch service, celebrating the local flavors of the Lowcountry.
“Our menu is inspired by Charleston’s rich culinary traditions and the city’s dynamic, evolving food scene," said Chef Todd Garrigan. "Our menu will be constantly rotating in harmony with what’s available and in season using the same produce found in our front of house market. Whether it’s dinner under the stars on the rooftop or a leisurely Sunday brunch, we’re crafting experiences that people will remember.”
Elements of Harold’s Cabin have been integrated into the new concept. Lillian’s retains the iconic two-story jackalope mural beloved by visitors of the former cabin. The original Harold’s Cabin live wood bar top remains a focal point of the ground floor bar while the remaining spaces blend the original wooden floors with marble table tops, rattan-backed seats, leather and canvas banquettes, and one-of-a-kind artworks.
Lillian’s Petite Market & Eatery is open seven days a week. Reservations at Lillian’s second floor restaurant are available for reservation via Resy and walk-ins are always welcome. For more information on the opening, visit @lillianschs on Instagram and Facebook.
