Hogs for the Cause, a fundraising event featuring a variety of live music and food, will return to the Charleston area for the second straight year. This year’s party will be held at The Grove at Patriots Point on October 3rd from 11 am until 9 pm.
The party, which originated in New Orleans, will feature an impressive lineup of music and pit masters. Musicians scheduled to perform include:
- Dr. Dog
- Lucero
- Nikki Lane
- Fly Golden Eagle
- People’s Blues of Richmond
Pit masters will include:
- Aaron Siegel, Home Team BBQ
- Justin and Jonathan Fox, Fox Bros BBQ (Atlanta)
- Mark Behr, Sweatman's BBQ (Holly Hill)
- Anthony DiBernardo, Swig & Swine
- Robert Patterson, Sticky Fingers BBQ
This year's event will also pit five professional teams, “The Pros,” against five amateur teams, “The Joes.” Each will compete in the following categories:
- Best overall plate of BBQ (judged by food media and BBQ judges)
- People’s Choice (chosen by attendees)
- Best Sauce
- Fundraising Champion

The purpose of Hogs for the Cause is to provide aid and relief to families that have a child being treated for pediatric brain cancer. To date, the organization has given grants to over 200 families in need. The partner with numerous hospitals, including the MUSC Children's Hospital.
