Hobcaw Brewing Co. earned a silver medal at the 2024 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition, hosted and presented by the Brewers Association.
In the 2024 competition, beers and ciders spanning 107 categories and 175 different styles (including all subcategories) were judged by 285 judges over seven days. Awards presented during the Great American Beer Festival competition are considered coveted symbols of brewing excellence globally, and brews that receive an award are considered the most excellent representation of their style category.
Hobcaw Brewing Co. was recognized in the American Wheat beer-style category for its Mercy Cloud, a 5.5% alcohol wheat ale brewed with whole oranges and coriander. This is the second medal for Mercy Cloud, which earlier this year won a gold medal at the South Carolina Brewers Cup, a statewide competition. Hobcaw becomes just the seventh Charleston-area brewery to ever win a GABF medal, and the first from Mount Pleasant.
Hobcaw Brewing Co. is a five-barrel microbrewery located in Mount Pleasant that crafts small batch ales and lagers which can be enjoyed at its family-friendly facility with expansive indoor and outdoor spaces.
“We’re completely overjoyed that our head brewer Ram Khalsa was recognized with this incredible and well-deserved award,” said Chris Mottram, co-owner at Hobcaw Brewing Co. “He’s been producing top-notch beer professionally for a decade, and this medal solidifies him as one of the best brewers in the nation.”
