Girls Rock Charleston has been working on a new after school program, which will be launching shortly. To celebrate, the organization will be hosting an “After School Kickoff Party” on Friday, January 17th at Local 616. Doors open at 8 pm.
The fundraising party will include live music, drink specials, a collection of locally-sourced raffle items, door prizes, and more. Raffle items include donations from Theatre 99, The Windjammer, Bohemian Bull, Earthmaid, and City Lights Coffee, as well as crafts created by Camela Guevara and Jillian Brandl.
Trophy Wife, Hauswerk, and L'Ocean will all perform beginning at 9 pm. The event is for patrons 21 and older. Admission is a $5 minimum donation.
According to a press release:
The after school program will focus on mentorship, leadership, and music as a platform for social change.” No musical experience is required and all instruments and materials for the program will be provided. The program is open to all girls and transgender youth ages 13-17. It will be hosted at Burke Middle High School in the Rhett Building. The program will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00-6:30 pm, from February 4th-May 1st, with a final showcase on Saturday, May 3rd.
