The Fish & Chippy, a restaurant serving authentic British fish and chips and local craft beers, will opens its doors in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday, September 8th. The concept is located at 565 Belle Station Blvd.
The restaurant is co-owned by Galen Le Cheminant, a British expat, and Babak Bryan, a Yankee transplant and local architect who also designed the restaurant's rustic gray interiors. Haitian-born chef Jean Pierre will lead the kitchen, which will offer dine-in, takeaway, and online orders.
Alongside its traditionally prepared fish and chips, the menu will also include “The Queen's Way,” which is fish and chips prepared as desired by Her Majesty. This version features breaded and baked fish with a tarragon Hollandaise drizzle. Other specialties include scotch eggs, a battered sausage with chips, Lowcountry-inspired pimento cheese grit fritters, and a Flake 99: vanilla soft-serve on a cone, topped with a Cadbury Flake chocolate bar.
“With the help of some very open-minded employees we will provide a first-class Chippy food experience,” Le Cheminant said. “We're serving customers the freshest-sourced Icelandic cod, arguably the best cod on the market – as you break open the crispy fried batter, the cod's meaty white flakes are exposed, and a light coating of salt and vinegar marries so well together when you crunch in to it! Our added gourmet items, from fried mac and cheese balls to a grilled market fish, give the menu a nice added twist.”
The Fish & Chippy is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 9 pm, and Sundays 11 am to 3 pm. You can see the full menu here.
