Chef Michael & Caitlin Toscano will be opening the doors to their latest Charleston venture - da Toscano Porchetta Shop - this week. Patrons will be able to choose between several sandwiches for meat lovers and vegetarians alike, including the signature porchetta sandwich. Plus, customers can build their own creation with a selection of ingredients to choose from.
After a trip through Tuscany, the Toscanos were enamored with street-side vendors, offering sandwiches made with fresh bread, delicious meats, cheeses, and vegetables. A time-consuming process, the local pork for the namesake porchetta sandwich requires days of preparation and hours of slow roasting, which is then sliced and served on warm, house-made Le Farfalle (the couple's original Charleston concept) Focaccia with aged provolone, salsa verde, and extra virgin olive oil.
Guests will also find an array of vegetable sandwiches, showcasing local vegetables and Italian cheeses.
“Our signature porchetta sandwich is a labor of love, prepared out of a deboned whole local pig, rubbed with traditional aromatics: rosemary, fennel, garlic, and black pepper,” said chef/owner Michael Toscano.
The eatery will also have an espresso machine, rotisserie, grab-and-go items, take-and-bake items such as lasagna, and sweet treats.
da Toscano Porchetta Shop, located at 109 President Street, will be open Monday through Friday, from 8 am - 6 pm, and closed on the weekends for the time being. For more information, visit their website.
