Charleston Wine + Food this morning announced that the Culinary Village event scheduled for Saturday and Sunday has been canceled due to inclement weather.
After initially only canceling Saturday's event, festival organizers decided to cancel Sunday's version as well. They released the following statement:
"It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing the closure of the Culinary Village tomorrow, Sunday March 10. In consultation with the City of North Charleston, we have jointly concluded that it is unsafe to re-open the Culinary Village at Riverfront Park on Sunday, March 10.
Since March 1, the Riverfront Park has been hit by nine inches of rain, half of which fell last night and this morning, with more in the forecast for later today. As you may have seen from social media posts, the grounds and many parking areas are under water with flooding expected to take a day or more to clear. In short, the Culinary Village cannot deliver the appropriate environment for our guests, vendors and partners to gather.
Our team has been out in the rain and flood waters at Riverfront Park working to secure partner activations, vendor inventory, and our many rentals.
As a non-profit organization, every event held, every ticket sold, every sponsor who chooses to invest their time and money into our festival contributes to helping the Charleston culinary and hospitality industry. Unfortunately, we are now in a position of needing your help. We ask that you turn your 2024 Culinary Village tickets into a credit for future Charleston Wine + Food events or consider your investment a charitable contribution. Ticketholders will receive this form.
Our team is deployed plan'ning numerous remaining events for the weekend. We ask for your patience as we work through these unforeseen circumstances. Thank you."
