The ARC of the Lowcountry and Firefly Distillery will host the inaugural “Getting Saucy with The Arc of the Lowcountry” BBQ Sauce Competition on Saturday, September 24th, 2022. The fundraising event will host approximately 4,000 BBQ lovers at the Firefly Distillery in North Charleston from 11 am to 6 pm.
The family-friendly event will feature live entertainment by Lauren Hall, Ben Fagan & The Holy City Hooligans, LaFaye, and DJ Natty Heavy, plus a corn hole competition, jump castles, face painting, and more.
Dozens of competitive sauce makers from around the state will compete in the following categories: mild red, hot red, mustard, vinegar, and specialty. Competitors will be provided with the pork, but are prohibited from additionally seasoning the pork itself in any way. This will assure that all competitors start with the same pork product and leave the sauce to shine through. The determining factor in the tasting competition will only be the sauce. Winners in each category will be awarded, with one winner declared the official South Carolina BBQ Sauce Grand Champion. “Getting Saucy” guest judges include the City of Charleston's Mayor John Tecklenburg and Black Food Friday's KJ Kearney.
Tickets are now on sale. Early Bird Tickets purchased before July 17th are $35. Regular Priced Tickets will be $40 starting on July 18th. Tickets at the gate will be $45. Kids under 12 are free. Ticket price includes tastings of all the BBQ and sauces, live entertainment, and kids activities. Additional food trucks plus beer and wine will be available on site.
