All-day brunch restaurant Ruby Sunshine today announced plans to open a location later this year in Downtown Charleston. The restaurant will be located at 171 E Bay Street, which is the former home of Blossom.
Ruby Sunshine says they will offer New Orleans-inspired twists on traditional Southern brunch favorites, including Eggs Benedicts, Beignets, Bananas Foster Pain Perdu and seasonally stuffed French Toast, as well as cocktails. You can see a sample menu here.
Ruby Sunshine is owned and operated through the Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group, the collective behind the acclaimed New Orleans-based eatery Ruby Slipper Café. Their expansion into the Holy City is part of its growth across the Southeast region, which includes locations in Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
“We're excited to bring our Big Easy-inspired brunch to the Lowcountry,” said Peter Gaudreau, CEO of Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group. “Charleston is a natural next step for our expansion, and we think the city captures that sense of New Orleans hospitality and southern charm that Ruby Sunshine is all about.”
The restaurant will feature indoor seating for approximately 170 guests, in addition to an outdoor enclosed patio area for about 30 guests. In addition to welcoming guests, Ruby Sunshine will offer job opportunities for locals. Job openings will be listed on the Ruby Sunshine website soon.
Husband-and-wife team, Jennifer and Erich Weishaupt opened the original Ruby Slipper Café to draw people back to their Mid-City New Orleans neighborhood after Hurricane Katrina. The Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group has since grown to operate 11 Ruby Slipper Café locations across the Gulf Region and continue to expand throughout the Southeast with Ruby Sunshine. The Downtown Charleston restaurant will mark the first South Carolina restaurant and ninth Ruby Sunshine location.
