On Sunday, October 27th at King BBQ, Chef Ashleigh Shanti, a James Beard Award Finalist, will be making the second stop of her book tour in Charleston for a collaborative brunch in celebration of her debut cookbook, Our South: Black Food Through My Lens, which was published earlier this week. Local bookstore Blue Bicycle Books will be the bookseller for the event, and tickets can be purchased here.
Shanti is Chef-Owner of Good Hot Fish in Asheville, NC. During this special brunch event, guests can enjoy passed bites and drinks from the cookbook and live music entertainment.
Much more than a cookbook, in Our South, Chef Shanti shares her interpretation of Black cuisine through a personal lens (her family's roots in Appalachia and throughout the American South, and her own identity as a Black, queer, female chef), challenging the idea that it is monochromatic.
One ticket option includes entry to the event with a signed copy of Our South for $65. For those looking to bring a friend or partner with whom they plan to share the book with, there is a ticket option for parties of two to leave with just one signed copy for $95.
The event will run from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm at King BBQ's North Charleston restaurant (2029 Carver Avenue).
