Shakespeare's Stage Band With Spartina Consort
The Piccolo Spoleto Early Music Series hosts Spartina Consort with vocal soloist, Josh Overby, in a program of music from Shakespeare's time.
One of the most important writers in the English language, William Shakespeare lived and worked in the burgeoning artistic milieu of Renaissance London. While barely a handful of pieces from his plays survive, it was a time of prolific creativity on the part of Shakespeare's musical colleagues and contemporaries: The Spartina Consort will seek to recreate both the popular and the rarefied music The Bard would have known.
Members of Spartina Consort are: recorder (Susan Conant), viola da gamba (Marcy Brenner and David Hunt), and harpsichord (Julia Harlow).
Location: St Mary's Catholic Church, 89 Hasell St, Charleston, SC 20401
