to
Redux Contemporary Art Center 1056 King Street, Charleston, South Carolina 29403
Redux Contemporary Art Center is excited to announce three upcoming exhibitions opening December 8th. In the Main Gallery is Andrew King’s solo exhibition "Again, But Different”. King will present recent mixed media paintings and new ceramic sculptures that showcase his unique use of color, form and organic compositions that highlight and reassess monotony of everyday life. Andrew King was born in Biloxi, MS and currently lives in Tampa, FL. He has exhibited at Heiress Gallery, Art Fields, and throughout the South East.
In Gallery 1056, Shannon Mayo McBride is exhibiting a new series created in the last few months. Following a period of working in collaborative mixed media, watercolor and screenprinting, JUST BECAUSE is a return to McBride’s painting roots. She states that compositional elements such as color, form, and line play a dominant role in her process, while context & concept is secondary. Originally from Portland, OR, McBride has been a Redux studio artist since 2021 in Studio 36.
A dual exhibition of KELA and Thomas Hicks will be presented in the Lightning Residency Gallery. This multimedia exhibition explores the convergence of nature and reclamation of forgotten narratives. KELA’s synthesis of film photography, painting, and writing celebrates the ethereal, encouraging a mindful approach to nature’s harmony. Thomas Hicks meticulously refurbishes and intricately repairs narratives from discovered imagery; crafting a tapestry of reality. Visitors are encouraged to dive into a journey of revelation and artistic expression through these two distinctive perspectives. KELA is a multimedia artist who was born in Charleston and raised in Los Angeles. She was the winner of the 2021 Emerging Artist Grant from the SC Arts Commission, debuted her short films at the 2022 & 2023 Art Fields Festival. Her work can be found in the collection of MUSC Health. Thomas Hicks is a current junior at the College of Charleston, majoring in studio art & art history. Hicks was awarded the Dr. Norton M Seltzer Award for his piece in the 2023 Young Contemporaries Exhibition.
