Objects Are Smaller Than They Appear

Our perception of reality is based on sensory information we have been absorbing all our lives.

When we look at any object, whatever the scale, we subconsciously compare it to what we have

seen in the real world. If we happen to see something we’ve never seen before, we identify it and

store it in our memory for future reference.

We rely on those experiences when we look at any form of representational art, including

miniatures. Whatever we choose to call them – vignettes, dioramas or scale environments –

“miniatures” invite us to look at reality from an entirely different perspective.

By combining various shapes, materials and colors I attempt to build scenes that remind viewers

of experiences they may have had in their own lives. My goal is to invite viewers to become part

of the scene where they can ponder every detail, speculate what is taking place and perhaps

develop their own story lines regarding past, present and even future events in the miniature

worlds before them.

Or they can simply enjoy the details for what they are – perceptions of reality
