Berkeley County Library System (BCLS) is co-hosting, with Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network, All About Marine Mammals, on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023 from 4 pm to 4:45 pm at Hanahan Library, located at 1216 Old Murray Court with no age restrictions. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Berkeley County Library.
Brooke Brown, Outreach Coordinator for Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network, will be presenting the following information about marine mammals:
- What marine mammals can be seen in the Lowcountry?
- What are their threats?
- What characteristics are present in marine mammals?
- How can we protect them?
“The Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network’s mission is to protect local marine mammals for future generations through science, outreach, and conservation,” Brown said “Together we will dive into the science of how to distinguish mammals from other types of animals, the types of marine mammals we see in the Lowcountry, and the ways we can help them thrive. Meet one of the faces of LMMN and participate in games about dolphin behaviors and experiments exploring the adaptations of marine mammals! You will even get to see parts of a marine mammal skeleton!”
Activities included are blubber hand, Dolphin Says game, and coloring sheets to learn about adaption and mammal behavior.
