Nothing says summer like listening to live music and dancing the night away. Starting in April, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) is offering its popular Shaggin' on the Cooper series. On April 28, the Mount Pleasant Pier will come alive with the sounds of summer when the Shaggin' on the Cooper series kicks off with The Sugarbees.
Since 1991, The Sugarbees have been known for their covers of some of the best beach, boogie and blues music. In fact, the band got its start backing national and international talent including The Drifters, The Platters, Chuck Berry, and Maurice Williams and The Zodiaks.
As summer settles on the South, bands from the Charleston area and throughout the state will perform monthly at the Mount Pleasant Pier (see schedule below). Spend summer nights on the pier with a date or head out to meet new friends, kick back and relax while taking in the fresh air and fun atmosphere. Gates for Shaggin' on the Cooper open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 8 p.m.
All Shaggin' on the Cooper events are held at the foot of the 1250-foot-long pier next to Memorial Waterfront Park, the perfect spot to catch cool breezes, beautiful scenery, and views of Charleston Harbor and the Ravenel Bridge. Beverages are available for purchase on site, and food is available for sale at the Mount Pleasant Pier's River Watch Café. Food and beverages are not included in ticket prices.
Advance tickets are $8 per person. Space is limited, so advance purchase is recommended. If available, tickets sold on site are $10. To purchase advance tickets or for more information on these events, call 843-795-4386 or visit CharlestonCountyParks.com.
2018 Shaggin' on the Cooper Schedule:
May through July, each Shaggin' on the Cooper will be preceded the night before by Friday Night Boogie, a special 21-and-up only version of the event on the Mount Pleasant Pier featuring DJ Jim Bowers. Shaggin' on the Cooper is brought to you by Dasani and your Charleston County Parks. For more information on these events, call 843-795-4386 or visit CharlestonCountyParks.com.
