Saltwater Cowboys today announced that the Rock the Dock Charity Concert Series kicks off this Sunday at the Shem Creek restaurant. The series will feature live music performances aboard the Palmetto Breeze while guests enjoy dining and drinks from the dock. A portion of the event series proceeds will go to support three local nonprofits: WakeUp Carolina, Surfers Healing and Camp Happy Days.
The energetic 80s tribute band Weird Science will perform the first concert of the series on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. The concert will benefit WakeUp Carolina, a nonprofit that empowers individuals and families affected by substance abuse.
"Our community partnerships continue to play such a vital role in the mission and vision of our organization,” said Dean Stephens for WakeUp Carolina. "We are grateful to Saltwater Cowboys for the opportunity to be a part of Rock the Dock and a chance to provide education, and promote awareness and hope in recovery. Since 2023, 439 people have lost their lives to overdose in both Charleston and Berkeley Counties, and it's one reason why WakeUp Carolina so strongly believes in harm reduction measures and why we will be distributing Narcan during the event."
The second concert will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, and will benefit Surfers Healing, a nonprofit that provides surfing lessons and therapeutic programs for children with autism and other developmental disabilities.
The finale show will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, and will benefit Camp Happy Days, a nonprofit that provides free summer camp experiences for children with cancer and their siblings.
“We are looking forward to kicking off the Rock the Dock Charity Concert Series and supporting these three incredible organizations,” said Michael Brown, Saltwater Cowboys’ manager. “These nonprofits do amazing work in our community, and we hope these events will raise awareness and funds for their important causes and, at the same time, allow our guests to experience the awesomeness of Shem Creek and music on the creek.”
