On Saturday, March 7th, the City of North Charleston, the Navy Operational Support Center Charleston, and the will present the Navy Reserve Centennial Celebration. The event will run from 11 am until 6:30 pm at North Charleston’s Riverfront Park.
Admission to the celebration and parking are free. The 100th anniversary celebration of the Navy Reserve will include:
- Tours of the USS Shamal
- Guest speakers
- Special military demonstrations on land and water
- A display of the Citadel NRPTCU & Naval Reserve traveling history panels
- A Naval Reserve flyover
- Music throughout the day by the US Navy Fleet Forces Band – Four Star Edition
- Children’s activities
- Food vendors
- A fireworks finale
Riverfront Park is also the home to the Greater Charleston Naval Base Memorial, which was erected in honor of the military personnel and civilians that served the United States and the Greater Charleston region while the Charleston Navy Base was operational.
