The Charleston music scene is set to be invigorated this October with a special visit from four-time Grammy Award nominee Stefon Harris, a renowned jazz vibraphonist, composer, and educator. Made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts, Harris will engage with local students and the community through performances and workshops.
On Wednesday, October 14, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Harris will present an inspiring workshop at the Charleston Jazz Academy. Students will be captivated as he shares musical techniques and insights into his life as a professional musician and recording artist. This special session is open to the public and is a great opportunity to explore the offerings of the Charleston Jazz Academy.
Harris will also make a special appearance at the Charleston Jazz Gala on October 18 at the American Theatre. The excitement continues as he headlines the Good Vibes concert with the Charleston Jazz Orchestra on October 19 at the Charleston Music Hall. These events will showcase Harris' signature sound and bring both jazz standards and his innovative compositions to life.
A celebrated artist signed to the prestigious Blue Note Records, Stefon Harris has garnered critical acclaim for his work, including his groundbreaking album, The Grand Unification Theory, which received the Martin E. Segal Award from Jazz at Lincoln Center. His collaborations with jazz legends like Diana Krall, Norah Jones, and Janis Siegle of the Manhattan Transfer highlight his versatility and stature within the jazz community. Additionally, Harris is a key member of the SFJazz Collective, showcasing his prowess as both a performer and a leader in contemporary jazz.
"We are thrilled to welcome Stefon Harris to Charleston," said Lacy Miller, Marketing & Communications Director, Charleston Jazz. "His visit is a remarkable opportunity for our community to connect with one of the most talented and innovative artists in jazz today. We encourage everyone to join us for these special events."
