PURE Theatre today announced that Pleasure Never Lies was awarded third place in the prestigious international Search for New Musicals. Pleasure Never Lies is a world premiere musical by Marshall Hagins, Brad Moranz, and Noah Brody that will be debuting on the PURE stage in April 2025.
The Search for New Musicals accepts entrants from around the globe; winners receive awards worth up to $25,000 in workshop productions, concert readings, feedback, and developmental support.
“We are thrilled to sponsor the Search,” says Elise Dewsberry, Artistic Director of NMI. “We love seeing what writers are creating, and of course our mission is to nurture the folks who are writing musicals, so announcing the winners of the Search is one of my favorite things to do all year!”
Pleasure Never Lies is about the evolutionary science of birds, feminism, and love. The question burning a hole in Sam’s mind is: "What if the male-centric, chest thumping theory 'survival of the fittest' is only half the story?". Sam is working in the jungle of Papua New Guinea with a ragtag band of other bird scientists when a lucky break gives her the chance to host a major new nature documentary. To take it, Sam must risk standing up to her boss, her boyfriend, and the humiliation of scientists around the world to reveal her radical answer: females’ pursuit of their own pleasure is the second great engine of evolution.
Performances will run from April 10th through May 3rd at the Cannon Street Arts Center. Tickets for Pleasure Never Lies are on sale now at puretheatre.org, and are also available through the Season 22 Flex Pass. You can find out more about the show and the Flex Pass at puretheatre.org or by calling the box office at 843-723-4444.
