The public is invited to Mary Martin Gallery on February 2nd for the opening reception of “THE SPECTRUM OF LOVE” which will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm at 143 East Bay Street, and 103 Broad Street, Charleston.
The ancient Greeks believed in different types of love. Their philosophy was that strong and beautiful love can be more than Eros romantic love. THE SPECTRUM OF LOVE, a group show curated by MARY MARTIN, features many of the various types of love such as:
A form of Storage love, common between parents and their children, is seen in “Leopards“, a 12” x 24” oil painting created by Asya Baldwin, as the mother Leopard lovingly protects her cub.
Ludus love is playful or uncommitted love. The focus is on fun, such as teasing and dancing, as shown by David Unger in his bronze sculpture “Intoxication”.
Agape love, universal and selfless, such as the love for others, nature and animals, is depicted by “Revisiting Red”, an impressionistic 36” X 36” oil on aluminum painting of a rolling countryside by Trish Weeks.
A great example of Philia Love, affectionate or platonic brotherly love, is “Two Ladies in the Moon”, an abstract expressionist figurative acrylic on canvas.
The exhibit contains paintings by several artists such as Michael Ashley, Larry Osso, Trish Weeks, and Hessam Abrishami, as well as sculptures by Leon Bronstein and Philippe Guillerm.
THE SPECTRUM OF LOVE will be on display for the month of February at both Mary Martin Galleries. All of the artists are represented by Mary Martin Galleries in Charleston, SC.
