As previously mentioned on this website, Major League Lacrosse’s (MLL) top two teams will square off for the league’s championship in Charleston on Saturday, August 18th. In addition to the game, MLL has announced several related events taking place throughout the area.
While the Championship doesn't begin until the 18th, Charlestonians and visitors can begin interacting with MLL players on Thursday, August 16th at Uptown Social for photos, a meet-and-greet, and possible celebrity-guest appearances.
On Friday, August 17th, the MLL Championship Lax Rodeo begins at 10 am with a reduced squad (seven-on-seven) and reduced field-size competition. Games for participants will be divided into four divisions. You can learn more here.
The MLL Honors will be held Friday evening. The annual awards ceremony and presentation will begin at 5:30 pm for VIPs, invited guests, dignitaries, and MLL legends. The event will be held at American Theater with the awards ceremony broadcast live, beginning at 6:30 pm, via Lacrosse Sports Network (LSN). Ohio Machine goaltender and defending MLL champion, Scott Rodgers, and ESPN lacrosse analyst, Quint Kessenich, will co-host the show. This year's award winners and players will then enjoy an evening at Charleston's Uptown Social.
On Saturday, the MLL Championship Clinic will be hosted by MLL All-Stars from 9 am to noon. Players that took part in Friday's Lax Rodeo competition and Saturday registrants will participate and receive specialized instruction for every position from top MLL players. Games, raffles, and player autograph sessions will also be held. The final event prior to the Championship Game, held from 1 pm to 3 pm, is a skills competition, which will include the 40-yard dash, fastest shot, and most accurate shot. Top performers will be recognized during the Championship Game. Details for all lacrosse participation opportunities during MLL Championship Weekend can be found here.
Preceding the Championship game, beginning at 5 pm at MUSC Health Stadium, will be a FREE Fan Festival. The event will feature music, an opportunity to see the newest equipment from the top brands in lacrosse and other top MLL partners. Players will be available to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
