The Kappa Rho Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated invites youth ages 8-18 to its annual Youth Symposium to be held on Saturday, March 9th, 2024 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Goose Creek Community Center (519A N. Goose Creek Blvd.).
The 2024 theme is “Supporting, Serving, and Empowering Our Youth Educationally, Civically, Socially, Physically, and Emotionally: Health is Wealth!” This is a free community event in which chapter members and guest presenters will provide fun, interactive, educational workshops to help guide youth in making healthy decisions through H3: Healthy Choices, Healthy Living and Healthy Generations. This year, the Xi Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is partnering with the sorority chapter to host its Project Alpha in conjunction with Youth Symposium for the first time. Project Alpha is designed to provide education, motivation, and skill-building on issues of responsibility, relationships, teen pregnancy, and more. This 2024 Youth Symposium/Project Alpha event is sponsored by the City of Goose Creek Recreation Department.
Topics discussed will include financial literacy and awareness, education through STEAM, teen pregnancy prevention, exercise, healthy eating, social action, and mental health. There will be guest speakers, interactive activities, youth group vendors, lunch, giveaways, and lots of fun. Workshop presenters will include sorority and fraternity chapter members and guest organization representatives. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children on Eventbrite.com under the 2024 Youth Symposium/Project Alpha. Youth organizations are invited to set up an information table during the event.
