Rabbit Hole Mediums announced “Animal Shred III,” an exhibition that builds upon artist Kate Barattini's 2015 series, “Animal Shred,” will be held on Friday, August 12th at Hed Hi Studio (654 King Street). The free event runs from 6 pm to 10 pm.
Barattini's original series examined the zoomorphic characteristics and soul that each surfer displays in their approach to riding waves. She has partnered with water photographer Justin Morris and artist Taylor Faulkner to bring three portrayals of the series—one photographic, one in dry medium, and the other painted visual works. The three surfers have worked together for many years on various surf-inspired projects.
With the help of Pabst Blue Ribbon, Liquid Death, and Hed Hi Studio, Barattini, Morris, and Faulkner will offer “a visual feast for surf-hungry eyes.” The celebration will include:
- Live music by local band Yearning Whir and DJ Moldybrain
- PBR
- Liquid Death non-alcoholic seltzer
- Locally made tamales
The event will also raise awareness for HEART Inclusive Arts Community and Charleston Waterkeeper. Members of HEART will have some selected works hung in the exhibition and 100% of their sales will directly benefit the nonprofit. Ten percent of anything else sold during the event will go directly to the local organizations. In addition, any print or T-shirt purchased will offer the chance to win one of two raffle prizes: a few original, collaborative works created by all three artists.
