As the longest-running, season-long program with a pure focus on piano, the College of Charleston International Piano Series continues its 34th season with a wide array of performers, from young professionals to seasoned artists. The second concert of the season brings Daria Rabotkina to the stage.
Daria Rabotkina is lauded as "a pianist full of fire and warmth" (The Plain-Dealer). Winner of the 2007 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, she received top prizes at several international competitions and participated in Russia's White Nights, Finland's Kuhmo, and Copenhagen's Summer festivals. In the United States, Rabotkina has appeared at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, International Keyboard Institute and Festival, Music Academy of the West, and San Francisco International Piano Festival.
“Daria makes a much-anticipated return to the International Piano Series at the College of Charleston,” explains Director of Piano Studies, Tom Hicks. He adds, “She will perform pieces written during challenging periods in the composers’ lives in an emotionally charged program.”
The evening's repertoire includes Schumann’s Ghost Variations, selections from Beethoven’s Bagatelles, Op. 33, Medtner’s Sonata-Reminiscenza, and Aurandt’s Sonata in B-flat minor.
Rabotkina has been practicing and performing piano for her entire life, having been born in Kazan, Russia into a family of musicians. She continued her education at Kazan State Conservatory and in New York at Mannes College of Music and Eastman School of Music where she received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree. Rabotkina founded the FunKey Piano Project at Texas State in 2018 and has recently joined the piano faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she is the Director of piano studies.
