On Tuesday, August 9th, Lowcountry AIDS Services (LAS) will bring their marquee fundraising event back after a 15 year absence. That’s right, Gay Bingo will make its triumphant return to the Lowcountry at 6 pm inside the Memminger Auditorium.
LAS last held Gay Bingo back in 2001 when it was known as Bubba Bingo in honor of legendary Atlanta drag queen, Bubba D. Licious, who was was the event’s featured emcee.
Gay Bingo, “where the winner is never a straight line and everyone has a ball,” will by hosted by Patti O'Furniture, the “Camp Queen of the Carolinas,” who performs regularly at Dudley's on Ann. The theme for the evening is “That ‘70s Bingo: It's Not Your Grandma's Game!” and costumes are encouraged. The event will include lip sync performances by Patti O'Furniture, six games of bingo with prize packages, a raffle, local beer, food trucks, and more.
Although Gay Bingo will be a fun and lively event, organizers also hope to raise awareness, tolerance, and advocacy for those with HIV/AIDS. The epidemic is still affecting many in the Charleston community – LGBT and straight alike.
