After a long hiatus, Cultivate SciArt is excited to be starting back their happy hour series - a unique blend of science, art, and socializing - on January 30th, 6 pm to 8:30 pm at Maybank Public House, 1970 Maybank Hwy.
They will kick off 2024 with visiting scientist, Dr. David Turner, presenting “Balance Through The A.G.E.s: How Lifestyle Impacts Health,” and teaching artist, Marielena Martinez, introducing participants to Abstract Art” through the revolutionary techniques of Piet Mondrian to use simple combinations of lines and colors to create beautiful, balanced artwork.
AGEs is the acronym for advanced glycation end-products, a type of molecule that forms in our cells when sugars bind to proteins and fats. While medical science has been aware of these molecules for decades it is only in the more recent years that their role in the development and worsening of many chronic diseases has become clear. Dr. Turner, will share these research insights and the work of the Anti-AGEs Foundation to make this knowledge more available to the public.
As always, participants will get hands-on guidance for creating their own art pieces, discussion time with our speakers, and the opportunity to meet local Charleston organizations helping to increase access to healthy food so we can all better balance our AGEs.
