Charleston Symphony Opens Single Ticket Sales and Announces New Sacred Series

The Charleston Symphony announced Monday that single tickets for the 2018-19 season are now available. The upcoming season offers a diverse musical lineup spanning multiple periods and genres and will include an all new series of chamber music performances, called the Sacred Series.

Highlights of this season's Masterworks programming include Beethoven's 5th Symphony, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3, Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, Paganini's virtuosic Violin Concerto, Mozart's final composition, Requiem, and a night dedicated to celebrating the best of American composers, including Copland's iconic Fanfare for the Common Manfrom his Symphony No. 3.

Pops performances will feature trumpeter/vocalist Byron Stripling and vocalist Carmen Bradford performing a tribute to the music of Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, the return of beloved vocalist and pianist Tony DeSare, and an evening of opera and Broadway hits with Charleston's own world-renowned husband and wife vocalists Dimitri Pittas and Leah Edwards. Patrons will also experience a celebration of international music with the Charleston Taiko Drummers and Latin percussionist Gino Castillo.

Special events include the annual family-favorite Holiday Pops concert, and a performance of Holiday Brass with Doc Severinsen and Phil Smith. Severinsen, the former band leader for “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,”will be entering his 70thyear in show business, and Smith, former Principal Trumpet player of the New York Philharmonic, will be joining as conductor, trumpet player, and host.

The newly announced Sacred Series will consist of three chamber music performances to take place at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in downtown Charleston. Performances will include Handel's Messiah, as well as Vivaldi's Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera. Soprano Awet Andemicael, will join as vocalist and Daniel Sansone as organist.
