Charleston Stage will host a celebration of the human spirit with the Tony Award-winning drama, “The Trip to Bountiful,” playing at the historic Dock Street Theatre from February 28th to March 17th.
Follow 80-year-old Mama Watts on the adventure of a lifetime as she runs away from the confines of her restrictive life to revisit her hometown of Bountiful, Texas one last time. When Mama gets stuck at a train station in the middle of the night, learning that the last resident passed away just two days ago, what will she do? Find out in this heartwarming play by Horton Foote, author of the award-winning screenplay "To Kill a Mockingbird."
Charleston Stage is thrilled to welcome Founder Julian Wiles back from retirement to direct "The Trip to Bountiful." For Wiles, this production is a "hidden gem," symbolizing his own return to the director’s chair. Since founding Charleston Stage in 1978, Wiles led the company for an impressive 45 seasons, establishing it as South Carolina's largest professional theater company. Acclaimed local actress Samille Basler will star as Mama Watts, marking her 22nd performance with Charleston Stage under Wiles’ direction.
