Due to a continued lifeguard staffing shortage, Charleston County Parks today announced that it is closing Splash Zone Waterpark at James Island County Park for the remainder of the season.
“Closing Splash Zone will allow us to shift remaining lifeguards to our largest waterpark, Whirlin' Waters Adventure Waterpark, where we can serve the greatest number of people while adhering to the highest safety standards,” the organization said in a media release.
Charleston County Parks said they will begin lifeguard recruitment for next season at the end of December. If you or someone you know is interested in guarding next season, have them visit www.ccprc.com/jobs and sign up to be notified when openings are posted later this year.
Dog Day Afternoon will take place as scheduled at all three waterparks. Operating hours at Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark in North Charleston have not changed; they are open weekends only through Labor Day. Splash Island Waterpark at Palmetto Islands County Park also remains closed. Basic Splash Pass members will be able to use their pass for admission to Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark for the remainder of the season.
