Charleston County Parks’ Summer Entertainment Series for kids is back. The seven-week show series, held at James Island and Wannamaker County Parks, kicks off June 19th and runs through August 8th.
Intended for children and their parents or chaperones, the Summer Entertainment Series features different entertainers and presenters each week, giving families an opportunity to enjoy fun and education in an indoor park facility. Shows are held at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays at James Island County Park’s Edisto Hall, and on Thursdays at 10 a.m. in North Charleston’s Wannamaker County Park’s Cypress Hall.
Early registration to each showing is $5 per child, or $7 on-site if the event if is not sold out. Ages 2 and under and chaperones are free with child admission. At least one chaperone per eight children is required. Early registration is recommended and is available by calling 843-795-4386.

Wednesday, June 19 at James Island County Park and Thursday, June 20 at Wannamaker County Park
- Magic by Chaz: Chaz joins us from Minnesota with his magic show, mystifying all in attendance. This program is intended for ages 2-12.
Wednesday, June 26 at James Island County Park and Thursday, June 27 at Wannamaker County Park
- The South Carolina Aquarium: Ponds, swamps, marshes and forests! These are homes to many amazing reptiles and amphibians. Our educators will introduce you to our scaly, slippery neighbors and teach you about their habitats and special adaptations. Intended for ages 5-12.
Wednesday, July 10 at James Island County Park and Thursday, July 11 at Wannamaker County Park
- West African Dance & Drumming: Step into the heat with Eric Amoquandoh in this lively interactive class that brings together the stories of Ghana, West Africa, showcasing them through music and movement. Together we will learn traditional Ghanaian songs, dances, and drumbeats, the sounds you'd hear if you were to arrive in West Africa. Intended for ages 5-12.

- Birds of Prey: An exciting presentation from The Center for Birds of Prey featuring birds from around the world. Intended for ages 5-12.

- Carioca Capoeira Charleston: Capoeira is a blend of martial arts, game, and dance originating in Brazil. This show is both dynamic and energetic, and is set to traditional music featuring authentic Brazilian songs and instruments. Intended for ages 5-12.
Wednesday, July 31 at James Island County Park and Thursday, August 1 at Wannamaker County Park
- Insects Insanity with the City of Charleston: What has six jointed legs, a thorax, and compound eyes? Insects! City of Charleston educators will teach you about the many characteristics of these creepy animals. Participants will learn the differences between insects and other creepy crawlies. Intended for ages 5-12.
Wednesday, August 7 at James Island County Park and Thursday, August 8 at Wannamaker County Park
- Friends of Coastal South Carolina: Come see an exciting presentation about snakes, turtles, and alligators that live in the Lowcountry! Intended for ages 5-12.
