Beyond Van Gogh, an immersive, walk-through art experience, will be in Charleston for a limited engagement, but has yet to announce dates or a location for the exhibition. The event is similar to Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition, which was setup in Festival Hall this summer.
Beyond Van Gogh’s website says the event “uses cutting-edge projection technology to create an engaging journey into the world of Van Gogh. Using his dreams, his thoughts, and his words to drive the experience as a narrative, we move along projection swathed walls wrapped in light, colour, and shapes that swirl, dance and refocus into flowers, cafes and landscapes. Masterpieces, now freed from frames, come alive, appear and disappear, flow across multi-surfaces, the minutia of details titillating our heightened senses. Through his own words set to a symphonic score, we may come to a new appreciation of this tortured artist's stunning work.”
While walking through Beyond Van Gogh, guests can see over 300 masterpieces, including instantly-recognizable classics such as “The Starry Night,” “Sunflowers,” and “Café Terrace at Night.” Event organizers say Van Gogh's art “comes to life by appearing and disappearing, flowing across multiple surfaces, and heightening the senses with their immense detail.”
