The 66th Annual USS Yorktown CV-10 Association reunion is being held this weekend. More than 100 former shipmates and their families will gather at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum for events on both Friday and Saturday.
On Friday at 9:30 am, a memorial service will be held for all former shipmates who have died over the course of the past year. It will be held in Hangar Bay I within the USS Yorktown. The service will include a tolling of the bell and a traditional gun salute. In addition, ashes of a few recently deceased shipmates will be scattered into Charleston Harbor.
On Saturday, October 18th from 10 am to 1 pm , a “Meet & Greet” session will take place in Hangar Bay II. Over 20 former sailors from the major conflicts the USS Yorktown served in will be in attendance. Visitors will be able to meet the veterans and have them sign a commemorative poster.
Following the Meet & Greet, six former shipmates will host “Life Onboard the Yorktown,” an hour-long presentation in the Smokey Stover Theater. The presenters will talk about their experiences serving on board the USS Yorktown during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
