Lifelong West Ashley resident and attorney William Tinkler made his candidacy for Charleston City Council District 9 official on Tuesday. Accompanied by his oldest son, Tinkler submitted his paperwork, marking the next step in his campaign to represent the community.
“At a young age, I learned what it took to truly serve a community,” said Tinkler, whose father is former Charleston City Councilman, Paul Tinkler. “Leadership is about a clear vision, relationship-building, effective communication, and above all, action.”
Tinkler says he is running to “fight for West Ashley’s future.”
“We’ve seen West Ashley get overlooked for far too long, but it’s clear our community is ready for the attention, resources, and energetic representation it deserves,” he said.
Tinkler said his focus will be on revitalizing and beautifying the district's commercial centers and prioritizing necessary infrastructure improvements with West Ashley's unique character in mind.
“West Ashley has been my home my entire life, and now it’s where my wife and I are raising our children,” said Tinkler. “This community has shaped my life and instilled in me the values I'm now passing down to my kids. I’m running for City Council because I believe in its full potential, and I’m committed to ensuring it’s realized.”
