The City of Isle of Palms Recreation Department is teaming up with Lisa Gastaldi, M.A., College Counselor and President, Low Country College Counseling, to host a College Application Boot Camp. The series is designed to assist rising high school seniors and parents to better understand and prepare for the college application season.
D etails per class:
- August 1st – Application, Personal Statement, Essay
- August 8th – Essay Finalized
- August 9th – Scholarships and Financial Aid
Each runs from 3:30 pm to 5 pm and is held in the Isle of Palms Recreation Center (Tadpole Room).
“In the first two hours of the program students will begin their college applications, find a topic for their personal statement, write their college essay, and understand the Common Application and next steps to submitting applications,” said Gastaldi. “The third hour of the Boot Camp will be for parents and will include an overview of the financial aid process, FAFSA and the available state scholarships as well as outside scholarships programs.”
To register for the series, visit IOP.net. Students need to provide their own device and bring a copy of their high school transcript. Prior to the series start, participants will receive pre-class assignments and prep details.
“College application season can be intimidating for students and parents, so we wanted to offer a little extra support for our residents and visitors,” said Karrie Ferrell, Isle of Palms Recreation Director. “Lisa is a professional that has worked in higher education for years, she understands what college admissions and financial aid departments need.
