Charleston native Rebecca Hopkins presents a series of new pieces of oil on gesso board & canvas, opening July 28 – September 9, 2023, in a solo exhibition in Redux's Gallery 1056 called, Mostly Pine Trees.
Hopkins' describes this exhibition as “a visual exploration of our relationship with cars, set against the rural and suburban roads of the Lowcountry.” This exhibition is curated by Taylor Faulkner. Gallery 1056 presents the work of one or more Redux Studio Artists and is curated by a fellow Redux Studio Artist. The gallery is a “pay-it-forward” model which encourages artists to support each other's personal artistic vision, while also providing a supportive atmosphere for collaboration between neighbors.
Bio: Rebecca Hopkins is a native of Charleston, SC. Rebecca is inspired by the ways that the natural and urban landscapes interact in her hometown. She seeks to depict the ways that the built environment of Charleston embodies and reflects the systems that unite, divide, and govern the lives of residents. To that end, her paintings include power lines, overpasses, trash cans, and the distortions caused by her windshield and iPhone lens.
