Lifelong West Ashley resident and local attorney, William Tinkler, today announced his candidacy for Charleston City Council District 9. His campaign said they already have initial fundraising of $31,100 – 90% of which came from Charleston area businesses and individuals.
“This is more than my district–it’s my home, and where my wife, Kristen, and I are shaping the future for our two boys,” said Tinkler. “I am disappointed in the lack of progress made in our community. Year after year, we are left behind while other parts of our great City move forward. I decided that I could no longer sit on the sidelines and stare at empty parking lots.”
After he completed his education, Tinkler served the United States of America and the State of South Carolina for over four years, assisting federal and state judges in solving a variety of legal challenges.
“My commitment to West Ashley is unwavering and transparent,” he adds. “My sole agenda is to deliver the results we need. The recent Sumar Street project debacle is just one of many ways our community is being left behind. My focus will be to ensure our neighborhoods, businesses, and residents get the attention they deserve from City Hall.”
Tinker’s father, Paul Tinkler, represented District 9 from 1998 to 2007.
“My father’s service on City Council opened my eyes to the efficacy of local leadership. I witnessed him work hard for his constituents, including on some issues West Ashley continues to grapple with today,” said Tinkler. “I learned at an early age that leadership is not just about vision, but also about building relationships, effective communication, and creativity. Those are the values I will bring to City Council, where I will advocate for my constituents.”
