Clare Wolf Behringer, an MBA graduate from the College of Charleston, has announced the launch of her debut independent short film, Vulnerable, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. She says the film tackles the subject of mental health through a powerful and poignant narrative that is meant to inspire conversation and save lives.
Featuring a talented cast and crew, including award-winning cinematographer David Navarro, and starring critically acclaimed actor Caroline Magee, Vulnerable is a deeply personal project for Behringer, who was inspired by her own struggles with mental health. With the help of many, including fellow College of Charleston students and alumni, Behringer wrote, directed, and produced a film that shines a light on the struggles, fears, and hopes that people dealing with mental health issues experience on a daily basis.
“All of us have a story that deserves to be heard,” said Behringer. “Hopefully this is a film that will help people realize that they are not alone, that there is hope, and that we need to continue having important conversations about mental health within our communities.”
Magee also shared their excitement about the premiere.
“Working on this film was an extraordinary experience,” she said. “I feel so lucky to have gotten to work with such a fantastic team. Everyone supported one another, which is especially vital on a project that requires such vulnerability. They walked me through the processes of filmmaking that I hadn't encountered before and helped me to prepare myself to handle the heavy content of the story.”
The premiere of Vulnerable will take place on May 4, 2023, at the Sottile Theater. All profits from each ticket sold will go towards local mental health nonprofits that have been doing incredible work in Charleston and have helped save countless lives.
