William “Bill” Heyman (right), founder and chief executive officer of leading executive recruitment firm Heyman Associates, has been selected to receive the inaugural Distinguished Mentor Award from the newly established Martin Center for Mentorship in Communication. The Martin Center, which is part of the Department of Communication at the College of Charleston, was founded in 2023 to teach, research, facilitate and inspire mentorship in the communications profession and beyond.
In announcing the award, Martin Center founder Tom Martin noted Heyman's profound influence in the communications profession.
“Many of today's chief communication officers at global corporations and CEOs of leading communication agencies, can trace their success directly to timely advice and counsel that Bill gave them at critical moments in their career journeys,” said Martin. “I am personally among the many who have been influenced and guided by his wisdom and insight. It is not overstating it to say that Bill is among the most respected mentors and leaders in our field.”
The award will be presented at a dinner being held March 29, 2023, at the College of Charleston to celebrate the launch of the Martin Center as well as to recognize the 20th anniversary of the Department of Communication's National Advisory Council, of which Heyman is a long-time member.
In 2021, Heyman received the Larry Foster Award for Integrity in Public Communication from the Arthur W. Page Center at Penn State University. He is the only executive recruiter to be named to PR Week's Power List three times. In 2017, he was inducted into the PR Week Hall of Fame. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College, where he is a member of the Board of Trustees. He also serves on the Eisenhower Institute National Advisory Council at Gettysburg College.
